The Temptations of Public Discourse

Is it even possible to not engage in public discourse?

To question this reality in my own head, perhaps might short circuit the premise. But otherwise, as soon as I say it out loud to my rabbit, or my husband, or my sister, it is in someway publicized – reformatted and prepackaged for THEIR consumption. It is now different here, now, with you, engaging with me.

This more tantalizing sphere outside the home is to be a sort of exhibitionist – and not just in the I’m An Artist, Come See my Curated Art in a Gallery Exhibition way – but the way that might get you arrested. Showing a female nipple or saying an unexpectedly incorrect thing can unravel a future. By the same token, showing the nearness to a female nipple or say unexpectedly just the right thing, can knit your future soft and bejeweled to the horizon.

High Risk. High Reward.

That magical future is a baubel that dazzles the eye. I am not immune.

More wholesomely, there’s the conversation. I am saying something tangled and you have an opportunity to untie a knot with me – or throw more yarn on the pile! There are a dozen venues where I can expose thoughts and tastes and fascinations. Here I am with a new blog! Its totally free form and whatever I make it. I have a wattpad for tiny poem collections. I have instagram for visual representations of those poems. Every place has a different audience, and the texture of humanity is out there to consume and be consumed by each others sights and minds!

Low risk yet high reward.

The opportunity for that conversation is titillating.

Lastly, and thank you for scanning down this far, because this is the best one to me, the most demanding of me to get out of my own skull and into the blinding light flung out of the marketplace of ideas: To try and write to try and think to try and create at a level worthy of “ART” that could be quoted in a hundred years by some young girl who is just as at a loss as I once was the day I read The Hollow Men, or the first time I saw a Rossetti painting, or the first day Dorian Gray’s questions provoked me to find answers.

Zero Risk, All Reward, if I can stick the landing.

A post-social media digital age is not, by its evolution, at all private. Nor, by necessity, is immortality.
